Instructions
Wash up your yard. Wash all surfaces with soap and water, and spray down all of your plants with water from the water hose. Spray the yard regularly with a water hose to keep any cat urine cleaned off.
Prevent cats from returning to your yard after you've cleaned up their mess. Place several rocks or pine cones in the areas the cats frequent most, as they dislike this texture and won't want to walk on it. Sprinkle coffee grounds, cayenne pepper, orange peels or lemon peels around the area. Dilute several drops of essential oil in water and spray in the area. Examples of essential oil that cats dislike are eucatlyptus, citronella or peppermint.
Add some plants to your garden that repel cats and absorb cat urine and its odor. The plant Coleus Canina repels cats, and Gerbera Daisies or spider plants absorb the ammonia from cat urine to prevent odors.
Use a motion-detected water sprayer, or set your lawn sprinklers to go off regularly. Cats hate surprises, and most hate water, so this keeps cats from hanging around and using your yard as a litter box.
Create a mixture of equal parts rosemary and water in a spray bottle and spray it around your yard regularly. This mixture is an effective way to repel cats and adds a pleasant smell to your yard as well.
