How to Clean Cat Urine From a Bed

A cat may urinate on your bed to mark his territory or because he has a urinary tract infection. Older cats can develop kidney issues, which result in incontinence. Cat urine has a strong smell due to the large amount of protein found in the urine. It is important to thoroughly clean a cat urine stain as soon as possible to discourage repeat urination and prevent staining.

Instructions

    • 1

Use paper towels or old bath towels to remove as much urine as possible. Use pressure when applying the towel to the urine spot, and repeat until you can no longer easily pick up any urine on the towels.

    • 2

Prepare a vinegar and water mixture. Pour equal amounts of water and white vinegar into a bucket, pitcher or jug.

    • 3

Pour a small amount of the vinegar and water mixture onto the urine stain. Blot and repeat. For urine which has had a chance to soak into the mattress, cover the vinegar, water and urine spot with a clean towel and then place a heavy object over the stain. Change the towel in a few hours and repeat until the towel is no longer picking up any moisture. This step will help remove any urine which has gotten inside the mattress.

    • 4

Grab a handful of baking soda and sprinkle it over the stain. In a small bowl, mix together 1/4 cup hydrogen peroxide and a squirt of dish soap. Moisten the baking soda with the hydrogen peroxide mixture.

    • 5

Put on rubber gloves and use your fingers to mix the baking soda and hydrogen peroxide into a paste. Work the paste into the stain. Let the paste sit for 15 minutes. Brush away any dried material, and repeat the process.

    • 6

Allow the mattress to dry completely. Vacuum up any remaining dried baking soda.
