How to Get Cat Urine Smell Out of Concrete

Americans own approximately 90 million cats, according to Pet Place (see resources). Inside cats are taught to use a litter box, but still, accidents do happen. Cats will avoid using a litter box if it's not in a private place, if they don't like the litter, or if the litter box is too soiled. Cats also may urinate on the floor if they have a medical problem. When the floor is made of a porous material like concrete, the urine soaks in and dries. The result is a lingering odor. You can easily get cat urine smell out of concrete by using a common household product.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean up any visible puddles of cat urine with paper towels. Wash your hands well with antibacterial soap and dry.

    • 2

Find any hidden areas of cat urine on the concrete with a portable black light. Shine the light all over the concrete. Any areas where there is urine will show up green or yellow in color, according to Planet Urine (see resources).

    • 3

Pour a liberal amount of white vinegar on each area where you found cat urine. Allow it to set undisturbed for three to four hours. The white vinegar will neutralize the urine smell, according to Jan Miller (see reference).

    • 4

Mop up the remaining vinegar with additional paper towels. Wash your hands again. Allow the areas to dry thoroughly on their own.

    • 5

Repeat the process if you still smell cat urine in the concrete. However, one liberal application of white vinegar on each spot should do the trick.
