How to Convince Your Wife to Let You Have a Cat

Having a pet can help make your apartment or house feel more like a home. While you may be wild about the idea of owning a cat, for example, your wife may not be as enthusiastic. A decision such as getting a cat should be one that the both of you agree on. Don't give up simply because your wife has stated that she may not want a cat. Here is how to convince your wife to let you have a cat.

Instructions

    • 1

Remind your wife how self-sufficient cats are compared to dogs. Neither of you will ever have to worry about taking your cat out for a walk. Cats don't need as much attention as dogs. There may even be times that you don't even realize you have a cat.

Explain to your wife that cats are normally less expensive than dogs overall. A kitten will rarely be more expensive than a puppy upfront. A cat never needs to be in a kennel when you go away for a weekend. Cat toys are generally less expensive than toys for dogs.

Find a suitable place for a litter box in your home and then promise your wife that you'll take care of the box when you have a cat. Simply stated, a litter box can be gross for a lot of people. That may be the big reason why your wife doesn't want a cat in the first place. Search for the best place for the litter box in your home. The box should be out of the way and in a room or place where the odor will not be smelled throughout your home.

Tell your wife how cats are less annoying than dogs. Cats won't slobber like dogs. While a cat will shed, it won't do so nearly as much as a dog. Your cat will never bark when somebody is at the door. Your cat will want you to pet his head or wish to sit on your lap at times but you don't have to baby a cat as you do a dog.

Allow your wife to pick out which kind of cat you buy. Once you've gotten your wife to consider getting a cat, look at different breeds and see which type of cat intrigues her. If your wife has the final say on which type of cat you get, she'll be more likely to want to get one since she'll have a more emotional attachment to the cat.
