Instructions
Research the breed. Ragdolls come in several different color combinations: seal, chocolate, blue, lilac, red, flame, torbie and cream. Any of these colors can come in bi-color, mitted, lynx and color point variations.
Decide what Ragdoll is right for you. Before you contact a breeder, you will need a clear idea on what you're looking for in terms of sex, color, pattern, temperament and size.
Locate a breeder. You can find reputable breeders on the Cat Fanciers Association website. Introduce yourself and tell him what sex, color and personality you are looking for in a Ragdoll. Be prepared to answer the breeder's questions about your home and lifestyle. These questions are not intended to be intrusive; the breeder is trying to determine if your home is a good match for one of his kittens.
Select a kitten. Choose a kitten that has round dark blue eyes, clean ears and a thick, shiny coat with a rabbit-like texture. Ragdolls are born pure white, with their coat color and markings developing slowly during the first four years of life. Your breeder can help you determine what color and pattern your kitten will likely develop over time.
How to Select a Ragdoll Kitten
Ragdolls are large, mellow cats well suited to busy homes. Ragdolls are renowned for their dog-like behavior, easily leash trained for walks and often playing fetch or performing tricks for their owners. Ragdolls have high play drives and are active enough to keep up with small children.
