How to Enter Mixed Cat Breeds into a Cat Show

Purebred cats are not the only ones that can be entered into cat shows. Organizations such as the Cat Fancier's Association and the American Cat Fancier's Association have categories in many of their shows for household pets, which includes mixed-breed and non-pedigreed cats. By following the guidelines and requirements set about by these groups, you can enter your mixed breed cat into a show and possibly earn a ribbon or prize.

Instructions

    • 1

Find a show with a household pet class. Not all cat shows are run by the same organizations or include the same classes of competition. Research the cat shows in your area or within an acceptable driving distance from you. Look at all the classes they offer and what the requirements are for each. They may label the mixed breed class as something different than "Household Pet," although it will often be with something similar.

Make sure your cat meets the eligibility requirements. Although any mixed breed cat can compete in this class -- regardless of their gender, color, or coat length -- they will still need to meet some basic standards. Cat shows that are run by the CFA and ACFA require that cats be at least eight months old and spayed or neutered. The CFA also disqualifies any cats that are declawed.

Fill out the entry form. Often these are available online or can be picked up at a regional association office. Include your name and contact numbers, as well as the name of your cat and any of its breed information; also, its gender, eye color, coat color, birth date and the class it will be entered in. Make sure that the entry form is returned before the deadline, allowing yourself time to fix any problems with the information before the show.

Pay any required entry fees. Some cat shows will ask you to make a donation to their association, or to become a member of the group and pay membership dues, before you can enter a cat in their show. Others will charge you a set entry fee for showing your cat. Pay this as soon as possible, to make sure there are no problems at the time of the actual event.
