Instructions

    • 1

Set up one room that your kitten will be staying in while you are away. Preferably, select a room with doors you can close that has adequate ventilation, such as a bedroom. This will keep your pet in a small area without the ability to roam around your apartment or home, which will help cut out on any danger.

    • 2

Move the litter box into your chosen room a week or so before you will be leaving. Your cat will need some time to adjust to its litter box being in a new area and become comfortable using it.

    • 3

Place your kitten's regular food and water bowls in the designated room and set up a sleeping area with its favorite blankets or regular kitty bed a few days before your trip. Put the bedding against a wall, in a corner if possible, so your cat will feel safe.

    • 4

Remove your kitten's regular food and water dishes the night before you leave. Set up the self-watering cat bowl and fill it with water. Place several non-breakable kitty food dishes next to the water for its food.

    • 5

Fill each food dish with one day's worth of food on the day that you leave. Although it is not guaranteed, you can hope that the food will last the duration of your trip. Scatter around a few new kitten toys as well as your cat's favorite old ones. A few toys filled with catnip will make a welcome addition as well and may help keep your pet occupied while you're away.
