Why is there separate dog and cat food?

Cats and dogs have different nutritional needs. Cats are obligate carnivores, meaning they must eat meat to survive. Their digestive systems are adapted to process high levels of protein and fat. Dogs, on the other hand, are omnivores and can eat a wider variety of foods, including fruits, vegetables, and grains. Their digestive systems are less sensitive to high levels of carbohydrates and fiber.

Cats and dogs also differ in their nutritional needs for specific vitamins and minerals. For example, cats need more Vitamin A, taurine, and arginine than dogs. Dogs need more calcium and riboflavin than cats.

Because of these differences, cat and dog food are formulated to meet the specific nutritional needs of each species.
