How to Feed a Cat Cheese

It's a common assumption that cats like to eat cheese and milk products. This varies among cats - some may enjoy it, others do not. Just as there is a belief that cats like these foods, there is also the belief that cats should not be fed cheese or milk for health reasons. Cats are lactose intolerant, but some have different degrees of intolerance. Being aware of what the lactose content is of the food you want to feed your cat can help avoid any adverse reactions.

Instructions

    • 1

Identify the type of cheese and it's lactose content.

    • 2

Feed a cat small quantities of a low lactose cheese, such as Asiago, blue, Gorganzola, Gouda, Monterey Jack, Parmesan, or Stilton.

    • 3

Observe the cat for any reactions to eating the cheese, such as nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. If any of these are observed, do not feed any additional cheese to the cat. If the symptoms persist, contact a vet.

    • 4

If there are no negative reactions to the cheese, feed the cat limited quantities of the cheese. Foods made for humans are not nutritionally balanced for cats, so be sure to feed a feline diet in addition to any treats.
