How to Warm Refrigerated Cat Food

Some cats prefer warm food and, according to the Cornell College of Veterinary medicine, unused canned cat food may be stored in a refrigerator for up to two days. The key is warming the food without making it too hot for the cat to eat.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the refrigerated food into a microwave-safe bowl. Do not use the pet dish, which may become so hot that it will burn the pet.

    • 2

Microwave the food in 30-second intervals. Stir and repeat as needed.

    • 3

Check the food's temperature. According to Pet MD, cats enjoy food that is approximately body temperature, which is between 100 and 102 degrees -- only a few degrees warmer than the human body. Stick a clean finger into the food to check the temperature. If warm to the touch, the food is near the correct temperature.

Scoop the food into the cat's dish.
