How to Make Kittens Eat With Karo Syrup

Finding an orphaned kitten is not only heart-breaking, it can also be stressful when you try to administer care to it. Often orphaned kittens will not be cooperative during feedings, which will only cause their poor health to persist. There is a veterinary trick that you can try on kittens that refuse to eat, which involves a two-stage process of administering Karo corn syrup. The syrup is high in sugar and easily digested by the kitten. This helps the kitten gain the energy and the will to eat food again.

Instructions

Pick up the kitten gingerly and regulate its body temperature. If the kitten is over-heated, give it a cool bath to bring down the heat. For a cold kitten, wrap it in a blanket and hold it near you to receive your body warmth.

Dip your finger in the Karo syrup and gently rub the syrup onto the kitten's gums. Lift up its lips so you can easily spread the syrup on the upper and lower gums. Leave the syrup to be absorbed into the kitten's system.

Prepare a baby bottle with Karo syrup. Pour a small amount of syrup into the bottle. Add warm water to the syrup slowly and keep adding it until the mixture is thin and drinkable.

Feed the kitten the Karo water bottle until it is strong enough to eat. A bottle every six hours will help keep the kitten's blood sugar level up until it can and wants to eat food.
