How to Feed a Feline Yogurt

Yogurt contains beneficial bacteria that help the digestive tract. Like humans, cats may benefit from eating yogurt. Yogurt may be fed at any time; however, it is exceptionally beneficial if the cat has diarrhea or other lower intestinal disturbances (such as gas). In many cases it will ease the symptoms and, even if it does not, plain yogurt that does not contain flavoring won't harm the cat.

Things You'll Need

  • Plain (unflavored) yogurt containing active cultures
  • Spoon
  • Small bowl or saucer
  • Canned cat food

Instructions

    • 1

Open the container of yogurt. Place 2 to 3 tsp. of yogurt in a bowl or on a saucer. Put the rest of the yogurt back in the refrigerator. Let the yogurt on the saucer or bowl come to room temperature. It might get a little more runny, but that is okay.

    • 2

Place the bowl or saucer down for the cat to see if it will eat the yogurt plain. You can also put some yogurt on your finger and see if the cat will lick it off.

    • 3

Mix a ½ tsp. of canned cat food with the yogurt if the cat does not want to eat it plain. Some cats love yogurt and will readily eat it without the added cat food. Others can be tempted by it if you add the cat's favorite kind of food. Alternatively, mix 1 tsp. of yogurt with ¼ cup of pureed chicken or chicken broth and 2 tbsp. of water.

Refrigerate any uneaten food as soon as the cat walks away from the saucer or bowl. You can feed the rest of it later in the day; just take it out of the refrigerator and let it come to room temperature first. Throw out uneaten portions after one day
