Prozyme for Cats

Prozyme is a safe, over-the-counter dietary supplement that complements and increases the nutrition cats receive from their regular diets. Enzymatic ingredients in Prozyme function as a digestive aid and may improve some types of feline health conditions.
  1. Identification

    • Prozyme for cats contains three groups of plant-derived enzymes: amylase, lipase, protease and cellulase. The enzymes are supplied through ingredients that include lactose, enzymes extracted from dried pineapple and dried fermented forms of fungus.

This dietary supplement for cats is available in a powdered form, which can be combined with the cat's regular food. Prozyme is offered in two sizes: a 454 g bottle, which treats 363 cups of food and a 200 g bottle, which treats 160 cups of food.

    Function

    • Prozyme for cats replaces enzymes crucial to feline nutrition, which are often lost or destroyed in processed cat foods. The dietary supplement is purported to increase enzymatic action on foods, which increases the digestibility and absorption of vitamins, minerals, proteins, carbohydrates and fats in cat food.

    Effects

    • Prozyme may give cats a healthier coat, produce less shedding and yield a reduction in skin problems such as itchy and flaky skin. Prozyme may also decrease effects of allergies and digestive disorders. In older cats, Prozyme is purported to help joint function by increasing the amount of fatty acids cats absorb from their food. Cats may gain weight because of the increased digestibility and caloric absorption from their regular diet.

    Considerations

    • Cats of all ages can use Prozyme. It does not react with any medications, and it may be mixed with any type of cat food. If cats are finicky, pet owners may want to mix Prozyme with a small amount of soft food.

The enzymes in Prozyme are sensitive to heat and should never be mixed with hot food or they can be destroyed; Prozyme should be stored in a cool dry place.

    Dosage Amount

    • Cats should receive ¼ tsp. per 1 cup of food. You will not need to change your cat's regular food amount unless your cat begins to gain weight.

Prozyme must be used every day, and it takes on average eight weeks before pet owners may see results. Any results from Prozyme will gradually fade once the product is no longer used.
