Science Diet for Kidney Health in Cats

  1. Feeding

    • To switch a cat to Science Diet, mix it with the cat's regular food in increasing amounts over seven days until the cat is eating only Science Diet. Make sure the cat always has clean, fresh water.

    • Dry Science Diet has 475 kcals per cup (4.3 ounces). A kilocalorie is the measure of usable energy.

    Nutrition

    • Limiting phosphorous to .6 percent helps to keep kidneys and other vital organs strong. Sodium also is limited to .32 percent. Antioxidant vitamins C and E boost the immune system.

      Science Diet consists of 33.7 percent protein, 19.9 percent fat, 38.2 percent carbohydrates and 2.2 percent crude fiber.

    Ingredients

    • The main ingredients are chicken by-product meal, brewers rice, corn gluten meal, ground whole grain corn and animal fat, with chicken liver flavor and a hint of rosemary extract. The formula promotes total digestion and results in a lower volume of feces.

    • A canned version of Active Longevity comes in chicken, turkey and beef flavors.
