List of a Dog's Weekly Food

A dog is a mans best friend and if you are a dog lover, than you know the joy these four legged creatures bring to a persons life. However, with all the happiness that comes with a dog, there is also a great deal of responsibility in taking care of one. Like with humans, nutrition plays a big role in how a dog feels and looks. Commercially produced dog food is not healthy for dogs, as it contains artificial chemicals and often fails to address the basic nutrition requirements of a dog. The best way to make sure your dog gets everything it needs with its food is to prepare its meals yourself.
  1. Meat

    • Meat is the main ingredient of any dogs diet. Dogs are meat-eating animals and they need meat for normal development and growth. Red meat is a good source of protein for the dog, but fish is even better. However, fats are an important source of energy for the dog, so red and specially pigs meat is in this sense more appropriate. You should feed the dog meat or dog food that contains meat, on a daily basis, as a part of his main meal. Never try to raise your dog as vegetarian. Also always cook the meat before you feed it to your dog.

    Dairy

    • Dairy products are a fantastic source of proteins and fats for your dog. Although it's not advisable to feed milk to growing puppies, because it may cause indigestion or diarrhea, milk is a source of calcium, phosphorus, fats and it's rich in protein as well. Cottage cheese doesn't have such high nutrition values but is still a very valuable source of protein for the dog. You can also feed your dog cheese, as it's rich in protein and fat. You can feed your dog dairy every day, however don't make it its main meal. It can have dairy products for breakfast or dinner.

    Eggs

    • Eggs are a valuable source of protein and fat for the dog. In addition to that, eggs also have a noticeable effect on the dogs fur. For this reason, if you are raising a show dog or if the look of your dog is important to you, eggs have to be a part of its diet. Feed the dog an egg a day and let this be his dinner or breakfast.

    Carbohydrates

    • Carbohydrates found in food like potatoes, pasta, rice or bread are an important part of a dogs diet. Like humans, dogs need carbohydrates for energy. Your dog should eat carbohydrates every day as a part of his main meal. The amount of carbohydrates shouldn't surpass 50 percent of the meal. The dog will also be healthier, if you feed him wholegrain carbohydrates, like brown rice, red and pasta.
