How to Make Wholesome Dog Cookies

Canine carrot cookies are a wholesome alternative to store-bought dog treats. Homemade cookie treats made with carrots are nutritious and tasty treats with no artificial additives that are healthier for your canine friend. You can make a batch of cookies for your dog in different shapes or just leave the cookie dough round. Either way, your dog will enjoy the homemade treat.

  • 2 cups pureed carrots
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tbsp. garlic minced
  • 2 cups flour, unbleached
  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 1/4 cup wheat germ

      Boil the carrots in a pan of water until soft and mushy. Place the carrots in a food processor or blender and puree.

      Remove the outer skin from one clove of garlic. Chop and mince 2 tbsp. of garlic.

      Mix together in a medium-sized bowl the garlic, eggs and pureed carrots. Continue mixing until the batter is smooth. Add the unbleached flour, rolled oats and wheat germ. Mix until the batter is blended and smooth.

      Sprinkle some flour on the counter. Remove the batter from the bowl and place on the counter. Using your hands, flatten out the batter so it is about 1/2-inch thick.

      Spray a cookie sheet with a non-stick spray. Preheat the oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit.

      Cut bone-shaped cookies out of the batter using the bone-shaped cookie cutter. Place the bones on the cookie sheet. Place the cookie sheet in the oven for 45 minutes or until the cookie has the desired firmness.

      Remove the cookie sheet from the oven and let the cookies sit to cool. As the cookies cool, the centers will start to harden. Serve as treats when needed.
