Instructions

  1. Prepare the Sweet Potatoes

    • 1

Scrub the sweet potatoes briskly with a vegetable brush under cool running water.

    • 2

Place the scrubbed sweet potatoes into the saucepan.

    • 3

Fill the saucepan with enough cold water to cover the potatoes. Cover the saucepan with the lid.

    • 4

Place the saucepan onto the stovetop and turn the burner on to medium.

    • 5

Cook the sweet potatoes for 20 to 30 minutes, until you can easily pierce the potatoes with a fork.

    • 6

Remove the saucepan from the burner and drain the hot water out of the pan.

    • 7

Place the saucepan into the sink and run cold water over the sweet potatoes for about one minute to cool them rapidly.

    • 8

Hold a sweet potato in your hand and push at the skin with your fingers. The skin should easily move away from the sweet potato flesh. Continue removing all of the skin from the sweet potatoes using this technique.

    • 9

Place the skinned sweet potatoes into the small bowl. Mash the sweet potatoes with the potato masher until the flesh is smooth.

    Prepare the Dog Treats

    • 10

Combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, cinnamon, vegetable oil, maple syrup, milk and the mashed sweet potatoes in a large bowl.

    • 11

Mix the ingredients well with a large spoon.

    • 12

Roll the dough out at about a 1/2-inch thickness. Cut the treats out with a biscuit cutter.

    • 13

Transfer the dog treats to ungreased baking sheets, spacing them about 1 inch apart.

    • 14

Bake the dog treats at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for about 15 minutes.

    • 15

Remove the dog treats from the oven. Allow them to cool on the baking sheets for about five minutes and then transfer them to cooling racks.
