How to Make Baked Dog Kibble

Store bought dog kibble can be high in chemical additives, preservatives, salt and artificial colors and flavors. It can also contain fillers such as grain and cornmeal, which are not part of a healthy canine diet. Making your own dog kibble is one way to make sure your dog gets all the nutrients it needs and that the food contains only premium, high-quality ingredients. By using only high-quality ingredients and knowing exactly what is in the kibble, you can help prevent health problems in your dog such as allergies and gastrointestinal disorders. Plus, home-baked kibble is cheaper than store bought kibble.

Instructions

    • 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

    • 2

Dissolve brewer's yeast in one cup of warm water.

    • 3

Mix the other ingredients and remaining water in a large bowl.

    • 4

Add the yeast mixture and stir until completely combined. The mixture should have the consistency of a thick paste. If the mixture is too dry add more water until it achieves the proper consistency.

    • 5

Cover the baking sheet with wax paper and spread the paste out to a 1/2 inch thickness.

    • 6

Bake for approximately 45 minutes or until golden brown.

    • 7

Turn off the oven and let the kibble sheet cool down slowly to allow the kibble to become crisp and dry. Cool completely before breaking into small, bite sized chunks. Store in a clean, airtight container in the fridge for up to three days.
