How to Batch Cook Chicken for Your Dog

Making food for your dog is not only a healthier alternative to commercial kibble, but is extremely rewarding and surprisingly easy. Scouring sales fliers and buying in bulk will save a lot of money. Preparing the protein source in batches and freezing it will save a lot of time and make feeding quick and convenient. Boneless, skinless chicken breasts are not only very easy to prepare but are low in fat and full of protein and other nutrients.

Things You'll Need

  • Large pot and lid
  • Water
  • 6 to 8 lb. boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • Tongs
  • Cutting board
  • Sharp knife
  • Measuring cup
  • Reclosable sandwich or snack-size bags

Instructions

      Pour 2 cups of water into a large pot. Wash the chicken breasts and place them in the pot. Add water to the pot so that all the chicken breasts are covered by water.

      Turn the stove on medium high and bring the pot to a boil. Turn the heat down to medium and boil for a half hour. Cover the pot, turn stove down as low as possible, and simmer for one hour.

      Turn off the heat and let the the pot cool so that the chicken is easier to handle and cut.

      Use tongs to take each chicken breast out of the water. Place each breast on a cutting board and cut it into bite-size pieces.

      Place chicken into a measuring cup as you are cutting. When the correct amount is reached, spoon the chicken into a reclosable bag and seal it. Place it in the freezer.
