How to Make Your Own Dogfood

Making your own dog food can be done with everyday ingredients and the right tools and nutritional information.

Things You'll Need

  • Water
  • Skillet
  • Knife
  • 5-gallon metal pot
  • Small metal pot
  • Large mixing spoon
  • 2.5 gallon air-tight container
  • 4 cups rice
  • 5 lbs. lean beef
  • 1 hard-boiled egg
  • 3 potatoes
  • 2 1/2 cups frozen vegetable blend

Instructions

      Cook the lean beef in a skillet until it is fully browned and no red is visible.

      Discard the fat from cooking the meat and set the meat aside.

      Boil the rice in water according to the package instructions in a five-gallon metal pot.

      Boil an egg in a small pot for approximately 12 minutes.

      Shell the egg and chop it finely with a knife.

      Add the chopped egg, potatoes and frozen vegetable mix to the mixture.

      Heat the ingredients while stirring with a large mixing spoon until the mixture has the consistency of wet dog food.

      Remove the mixture from heat and allow it to cool.

      Store the homemade dog food in air-tight containers in a refrigerator. This recipe makes approximately one month of food with two cups of food per day. This will require approximately 40 to 60 cups or 2 to 3 gallons worth of storage container space.
