Natural Veterinarian Diet

If you want the best for your pet, you may be considering a veterinarian-approved homemade diet plan. There are a few options for making your own pet food. Just remember to follow proper veterinary guidelines and add supplements where needed.
  1. Meat and Protein

    • Dogs and cats can consume raw meat without any adverse health effects. In fact, including raw meat in the diet improves digestion. When making homemade, natural pet food, include chicken, beef or lamb, but no pork. Use only one type of meat per meal and grind the meat before serving it to young puppies or kittens.

    Fruits and Vegetables

    • Dogs also benefit from finely chopped vegetables, although vegetables are less appropriate for cats. Put the veggies in a food processor before serving to make sure they are small enough for your pet to digest. Some good options are celery, corn, broccoli or Brussels sprouts. Avoid serving fruit with the pet's meal, as it cannot be digested.

    Other Nutrients

    • While a natural raw-meat-and-vegetable diet is wholesome, it is lacking in calcium, so you have to find ways to supplement it. You can make a homemade, all-natural calcium supplement by adding one tsp. of ground eggshells to your pet's food for every pound of meat. To grind eggshells, remove the yolk and whites and bake at 300 degrees before blending in a food processor.
