How to Construct an Automatic Dog Feeder

Automatic dog feeders are a necessity for diabetic dogs that need to eat throughout the day. Young puppies that need to eat several times a day benefit from automatic dog feeders as well. Working owners can rest assured that their dog is getting its needed food while they are at work. You can make a fancy automatic dog feeder that requires the use of woodworking tools, or you can make a simple automatic dog feeder that only requires the collection of common household items, such as a 1-gallon plastic milk bottle.

Instructions

    • 1

Rinse a 1-gallon plastic milk bottle to clean it of any residue.

    • 2

Cut a 0.5-inch tall slit at the bottom of one side of the plastic milk bottle. This slit should run the whole length of the side you have chosen. You can use either scissors or a utility knife for this.

    • 3

Set the plastic milk bottle on one end in a large tray with sides that are raised to keep the food in. The slit should face the open area on the tray to allow the food to freely flow onto the tray.

    • 4

Fill the bottle with dry dog food until it is full. Gravity will pull the food down as it is eaten.
