Homemade Mini Schnauzer Food

The miniature schnauzer is a sturdy dog breed of German origin. It grows to an average size of 11 to 14 inches snout to tail, and generally weighs 11 to 20 pounds. Since miniature schnauzers are typically lively and energetic, commercial dog foods may not meet their nutritional needs. Fortunately, it is not difficult to make your own dog food.

Instructions

For optimal health, include plenty of protein. The most important part of your dog's diet is protein, so homemade dog food should consist of mainly protein. There is protein in any meat source--beef, lamb, fish, eggs or chicken--and some vegetable sources. Also add grains and some fresh vegetables and fruit to the dog food. Make sure that you also feed your dog plenty of calcium-rich foods such as thick, sturdy bones, and leafy green vegetables, including broccoli and spinach. You may also want to consider calcium supplements.

Do not feed your dog foods that are hazardous to its health. Your dog cannot eat garlic, onions, chocolate, cocoa, raisins, grapes or macadamia nuts. All of these foods can be lethal to a dog, particularly in large quantities.

A diet of meat, grains and vegetables will keep your dog healthy.

Try out recipes to see what your dog likes. You can create a delicious and healthy homemade meal for your dog, for example, with just three or four boneless, skinless chicken thighs, a cup of green beans, half a head of cabbage and two cups of brown rice. Boil the chicken until thoroughly cooked and steam the green beans and cabbage. Next, prepare the rice by following the instructions on the package. Allow everything to cool, then cut the chicken, green beans and cabbage into bite-size pieces. Mix all ingredients together and serve. If your dog does not eat it all within an hour, bag the leftovers and store in the freezer.
