How to Make Homemade Small-Breed Dog Food

Many smaller breeds, such as chihuahuas, Yorkshire terriers and pomeranians, can become overweight and lethargic when fed commercial dog foods. These kibbles can be filled with byproducts and man-made materials unhealthy for an active, vital, smaller dog. A more healthful alternative is homemade dog food for both breakfast and dinner filled with natural ingredients that will help any smaller breed lead a more joyful, dynamic life.

Instructions

  1. Breakfast

    • 1

Place a medium-sized frying pan on medium heat.

    • 2

Cook two pieces of turkey bacon on one side for three minutes. Flip the bacon and cook it for three additional minutes.

    • 3

Place the cooked bacon onto plate covered with two sheets of paper towel to absorb any grease.

    • 4

Beat one egg in a small bowl for 15 seconds with a whisk.

    • 5

Place a small, non-stick pan on medium heat.

    • 6

Pour the egg into the pan and slowly push the egg toward the center of the pan with a spatula until it is fully cooked, which should take two to four minutes.

    • 7

Place 1/3 cup alfalfa sprouts onto one side of the omelet. Fold the omelet over so the side with the alfalfa sprouts is covered.

    • 8

Place the omelet and turkey bacon onto a plate and allow them to cool completely. Cut the omelet into bite-sized pieces before serving it to the small-breed dog.

    Lunch or Dinner

    • 9

Brown 1/2 pound ground beef in a medium-sized pan for eight to 10 minutes. Stir and turn the meat occasionally to ensure it does not burn. Drain the meat.

    • 10

Place 1/4 cup instant rice and 1/4 cup water in a microwave safe bowl. Microwave the mixture for three to five minutes or until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed.

    • 11

Cut one small potato and six green beans into small, bite-sized pieces. Pour three cups of water into a medium-sized pot. Pour the cut vegetables into the pot and bring the mixture to a boil on high heat. Place the pot on low heat for 15 to 20 minutes or until the vegetables are tender.

    • 12

Drain the vegetables in a colander and pour them, the cooked rice, 1/4 tsp. garlic powder and the browned meat into a large bowl. Stir.

    • 13

Allow the ingredients to cool completely before serving one cup of the dog food to the small-breed dog. Refrigerate the remaining food in an air-tight container.
