How to Make a Dog Feeder Stand

According to PetEducation.com, elevated dog feeders can have a number of benefits for your pet. They improve hygiene, encourage better posture for your dog and make it easier for your dog to swallow. If you are considering an elevated feeder to provide any of these benefits, you could purchase one at your local pet store. These, however, can be expensive. Making your own dog feeder stand can save time and money as well as giving you control over the size of the finished product.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure your dog from ground to shoulder to determine the feeder height. Measure its feeding bowl's diameter. Add 4 inches to that measurement to determine the feeder width. For the length of the feeder, add 3 inches to the bowl's diameter and multiply by two. Cut the plywood according to those dimensions.

    • 2

Draw two circles, each 1/4 inch smaller than the diameter of the dog's bowls, on the plywood. Position the circles 2 inches from each other and evenly spaced from the edges of the plywood.

    • 3

Cut out the two circles with a router. Sand to smooth the circle rims.

    • 4

Cut four plywood pieces for the front, back and sides of the feeder. The two side pieces should be the height of the feeder by its width. The front and back pieces should be the height of the feeder by its length.

    • 5

Line up the front, back and side pieces so they are flush and form a rectangular box. Apply the wood glue and then nail the pieces together.

    • 6

Place the top piece over the base. Secure it with glue. Ensure the top is centered and flush with the base. Nail it into place. Allow the glue to completely dry.

    • 7

Paint, stain or varnish your completed dog feeder stand.
