What Are the Ingredients for No-Flea Dog Biscuits?

Homemade no-flea dog biscuits are easy and inexpensive treats you can make in large batches for your dog. First combine the dry ingredients in a large bowl, then alternate adding the oil and stock. Stir until the mixture forms a dough and roll the dough out into 1/4-inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut the dough into whatever shape you desire, then bake on a greased cookie sheet at 400 degrees F for 18 minutes. Let the biscuits cool, then store in an airtight container.
  1. 2 Cups Flour

    • You can use white or whole wheat flour, but whole wheat flour is an excellent source of fiber. White flours have usually been bleached with chemicals, and the majority of the nutrients are stripped away.

    1/2 Cup Wheat Germ

    • Wheat germ is very high in both B vitamins and vitamin E. Each of these vitamins helps your dog maintain a healthy coat. If your dog has been dealing with fleas for a while, his coat and skin are likely in need of a vitamin boost from wheat germ. Wheat germ is also high in fiber.

    1/2 Cup Brewer's Yeast

    • Brewer's yeast is a useful flea repellent and it is also high in B vitamins. You can use nutritional yeast instead of brewer's yeast, but don't use baking yeast, which is completely different. Baking yeast does not have the same flea repellent properties.

1 Cup Beef or Chicken Stock

    • You can use prepared beef or chicken stock, but the healthier option is to make your own. Canned or jarred stocks contain high levels of sodium that your dog is better off without.

    3 Tbsp. Vegetable Oil

    • Vegetable oils are good for your dog's skin and coat. You can also use olive oil for the same reason.

1/2 Tsp. Garlic Salt or Garlic Powder

    • Fleas hate garlic. You can sprinkle garlic powder on your dog's food as an additional repellent. You can use either garlic salt or garlic powder, but the powder is a better choice especially if you use a canned stock.
