Dog Feeder Crafts

Dog feeders can not only be used to make sure your canine companion gets their food, they can also make for fun crafts projects, and for some cute décor in your home and in your dog's space. If you want to learn how to personalize your dog feeder, use some fun crafts to make your dog feeder fit your individual pooch.
  1. Molding Shapes

    • One fun craft can be to make your own dog bowls out of air drying molding clay. You can make them in the shape of a bone, or paw print. Once they are dry you can use a variety of different colors of non-toxic acrylic latex paint to paint them. When that paint dries simply spray bowls with a layer of shellac, let dry, wash your bowls and serve up some food for your pup.

    Personalized Feeders

    • Another fun idea is to personalize your dog feeders with your dog's name or initials. You can buy pre-made solid colored bowls from most crafts stores, or even pet stores. You can also mold your own as you did before, using air drying clay. Again, use non-toxic acrylic latex paint to paint your pet's name, whatever it may be, on the bowl. You can even opt to label bowls, one for water and one for food, or one for dry food, one for wet food.

    Bottle Feeder

    • You can make a simple automatic feeder using a plastic 2-liter bottle. Remove any labels from the bottle and paint it to your liking. Simply cut a hole in the bottom and fill it with food. You can then remove the lid and flip over the bottle into a 3-inch-deep tray or bowl. Don't put it all the way into the bowl, as you need to leave room for food to pour out. Use tape or glue to secure the bottle to the bowl, or secure it to the wall above the bowl.

    Tin Can Feeder

    • For environmentally friendly dog feeders, you can try and recycle old tin cans and use those. You can paint them however you like then cut them halfway down, or lower, in half so that they make a feeding bowl your dog can reach. You can also cut a hole in the bottom of one of them and place it in a large tray, and you have another good automatic dog feeder. Just be sure to put tape around any sharp edges, and use large tin cans that will hold enough food, think large coffee cans or something similar, you can use smaller ones for toy dogs if they are appropriately sized.
