Instructions

    • 1

Drizzle warm water into a bowl of instant mashed potatoes as you quickly stir with a whisk to combine the ingredients into a paste.

    • 2

Cover the bowl of potato paste with plastic wrap, and put it in the refrigerator to get cold while you make the cake.

    • 3

Crack a large egg into a mixing bowl, and use a fork to beat the egg until begins to get foamy.

    • 4

Add room temperature butter and oil to the egg, and mix them together with the fork.

    • 5

Dump in the carrots, flour and baking powder, and switch to a spatula or spoon to thoroughly mix the wet and dry ingredients. Stir in a small jar of strained chicken baby food for an extra treat.

    • 6

Pour the dog cake batter into a small greased cake pan, and press the two pieces of cooked bacon into the batter.

    • 7

Slide the small dog cake onto the center rack of a preheated 325 degree Fahrenheit oven, and let it bake for 40 minutes.

    • 8

Test the dog cake to see if it is finished baking by inserting a toothpick into the very center of the cake and pulling it straight back out. Probe the cake again every ten minutes until the toothpick comes out with no batter.

    • 9

Turn the cake pan over on a plate to pop the dog cake out after it has cooled for 15 minutes.

    • 10

Turn the cake back over onto a wire rack, and allow it to rest for 30 minutes or until it has completely cooled to the touch.

    • 11

Retrieve the potato paste frosting from the refrigerator, and use an offset spatula to add a thick layer to the cooled cake. Sprinkle the small dogs favorite treats over the top of the cake for a personalized touch.
