Instructions
Pumpkin Carob Dog Cookies
Place your oven rack in the center of the oven. Set the oven to 300 degrees, and allow it to preheat while you mix the batter.
Place a 15-oz. can of mashed pumpkin in a medium mixing bowl. Make sure the brand you choose does not have spices added but is just pure pumpkin. Mix the pumpkin slightly to break it up before adding the other ingredients. This will make it easier to incorporate the other ingredients. Add 3/4 cup of either cream of wheat or crispy rice cereal. Then, add 1/2 cup of powdered milk. Mix thoroughly until all the ingredients are incorporated.
Grease a cookie sheet lightly with either cooking spray or butter. If you prefer not to grease the sheet, you can use a silicone cooking mat instead, which you can purchase at home stores.
Fill a pastry bag or a zip-close bag with the corner snipped off with your pumpkin mixture. Squeeze the bag in a swirling motion to make 1 1/2 to 2 inch swirls of pumpkin mixture on your cookie sheet. Place one carob chip in the center of each cookie.
Bake your cookies for 15 to 20 minutes in your preheated oven. Remove the sheet after cooking, and allow the cookies to cool for 10 minutes on the cookie sheet. Use a spatula to move the cookie onto a wire cooling rack to finish cooling before icing.
Icing
Set up a double boiler. If you do not have a premade one, you can make one by setting a medium saucepan on your stove̵7;s burner. Fill it about halfway with tap water. Set a medium glass mixing bowl on top of the pan. It should rest just above the water. This is your homemade double boiler.
Add 3 cups of white carob chips to the double boiler. Set the heat to medium, and stir the chips with a wooden spoon to help them melt.
Add 1 tsp. of vegetable oil to the carob chips, and mix thoroughly to incorporate.
Ice your dog cookies by either dipping them into the melted chips or using a pastry brush to brush the tops of them.
Place your iced dog cookies on a sheet of wax paper to cool the icing before feeding them to your dog. Store the cooled cookies in an airtight container for up to a week.
