How to Feed a Small Dog With No Teeth

A dog's teeth tear and grind her food for her. If she has no teeth, she will be dependent on you to do this for her. You will need to make sure your small dog is getting a diet that will keep her healthy and active despite her handicap. You can feed your small toothless dog a commercial dog food or prepare a meal for her yourself.

Instructions

    • 1

Soak a kibble designed for small breed dogs in water until it is thoroughly moist. Alternately, feed a ground canned food for small breeds. Chunk style canned dog foods will need to be cut smaller or smashed for your toothless dog.

    • 2

Puree equal parts of three vegetables and one fruit in a blender or food processor. For a ten pound dog combine a half cup of the puree with one and a half cups of cooked chicken or turkey meat (or one cup of cooked beef or lamb meat), one and a third cups of cooked long-grain rice, two tsp. canola oil, an eighth of a tsp. of iodized salt and an eighth of a tsp. potassium chloride.

Puree the entire mix and divide it into four portions. Stir in powdered bonemeal and a powdered multivitamin-and-mineral supplement into one portion and feed this to your small dog with no teeth. Refrigerate the other three portions.
