Instructions
Stir together 1 1/2 cup whole wheat flour, 1/2 cup all-purpose flour, 1/4 cup cornmeal, 2/3 cup nonfat powdered milk and 1 cup old-fashioned oats in a large mixing bowl.
Form a well in the center of the dry ingredients.
Pour 1/2 cup melted bacon fat or one stick of melted butter into the center of the well.
Add 3/4 cup of water and 1 egg to the well.
Stir everything together until a dough forms. It should be the same consistency as sugar cookie dough.
Roll the dough out on a floured surface with a rolling pin.
Cut out dog bone shapes, or any other shape you want, with cookie cutters.
Spray a cookie sheet lightly with nonstick cooking spray.
Place the biscuits on the cookie sheet.
Bake the biscuits at 350 degrees F for about eight minutes. The biscuits are done when the bottoms are a light golden brown.
Set the baked dog biscuits on a counter to cool.
Boil water in the bottom pot of a double boiler.
Pour 1/2 cup of carob chips and 1 tsp. of canola oil into the top pot of the double boiler.
Place the top pot containing carob chips and canola oil over the boiling water and allow the chips to melt slowly, stirring occasionally.
Dip cooled biscuits into the melted carob chips.
Place dipped dog biscuits on wax paper to harden.
