How to Cook Ground Beef for a Dog

Diamonds are a girl's best friend and dogs are a man's. If you've ever seen a woman polish her already-sparkling diamond so that it looks even more perfect, then you know just how well you should be treating your living, breathing best friend. While canned food for dogs abounds, many caring owners choose to make their own food because it's generally healthier and fresher than the store-bought stuff. Ground beef is a good start, but combine it with other ingredients to give your dog the optimal nutrients and proteins.

Things You'll Need

  • Ground beef (lean is best)

Instructions

    • 1

Heat 2 tbsp. oil in a frying pan and toss the ground beef in to brown. Lean ground beef is recommended by vets as the healthier choice for your pup.

    • 2

Add the browned meat to a large pot and fill it with your choice of vegetables such as carrots and peas. Avoid onions, which are not good for dogs.

    • 3

Add brown rice or oatmeal to make the meal more filling and kidney beans for extra protein. All amounts are adjustable, so do what works best for your dog. Any combination of meat, beans, vegetables and rice will work.

    • 4

Add enough water to cover all ingredients and bring the pot to a simmer.

    • 5

Allow to cook for 45 minutes or until the vegetables are soft and the rice is cooked.
