Instructions
Take a break halfway through the feeding. Hold your Maltese against your shoulder, just as you would hold a baby: with its tummy against you and its head over your shoulder.
Rub your Maltese's back and sides in a firm up and down motion until you hear or feel it release trapped air. Be mindful that Maltese puppies are tiny and delicate, so be gentle. If the rubbing does not help the puppy to burp, move on to step 3.
Pat your Maltese's back and sides firmly but gently until you hear or feel it release trapped air.
Continue feeding your Maltese. When it has finished eating, repeat steps 1 through 3.
How to Burp a Maltese Puppy
While most Maltese bitches make excellent mothers, occasionally there may be one that either can't or just isn't interested in taking care of her pups. If you find yourself as a sudden mother of a litter of squirming, hungry Maltese puppies, you must take diligent care to do exactly what their mother should have done, and that includes burping the pups during and following each meal.
