Instructions
Mix warm water with dry puppy food. Make sure you have bought puppy food and not adult dog food. The kibbles will be smaller and easier for puppies to manage, and there are also more vitamins in puppy food that they need for healthy growth. Mix enough warm water to just cover the dry food.
Offer this food mixture every 2 hours while the puppies adjust. If they don't eat all of it within 15 minutes, remove the dish until next feeding time. This will help with potty training and will help the puppy get on a regular schedule.
Reduce feedings back to three times a day once you are certain that they are eating most, if not all, of their food when you feed them. Puppies still need to eat more often than adult dogs as their stomachs are much smaller and they are growing at a rapid pace.
Cut water portion in half after 3 days of consistent eating. This may take a few feedings to adjust, but generally puppies are used to the taste and will catch on fairly quickly.
Cut water portion in half one more time after another 3 days. This is the process needed to slowly wean them off of the "wet dry food."
Feed them only dry food after a few more days. You are now ready to put your puppy on a regular feeding schedule of dry dog food. Remember, your puppy needs to eat two or three times a day while growing.
How to Feed Puppies Dry Food
Introducing puppies to dry food is an experience for both puppies and owners. Dry food offers many benefits to puppies and dogs, as it is much better for their teeth and gums, and generally has more nutritious value. When it is time to wean the puppies off of mom's milk, it is important to introduce dry food right away to give them time to adjust.
