Things You'll Need
- 1/4 cup warm water
- Large mixing bowl
- 2 1/2 tsp. active dry yeast
- 1 large egg, lightly beaten
- 1 tbsp. molasses
- 2 tsp. olive oil
- 1 cup warmed chicken broth
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1/2 cup cornmeal
- 1/2 cup bran cereal
- 1/2 cup wheat germ
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- Biscuit cutter
- Baking sheet
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Put the warm water in a large mixing bowl and stir in the active dry yeast.
Stir in the slightly beaten egg, molasses, olive oil and warmed chicken broth, and mix well.
Add the whole wheat flour, cornmeal, bran cereal and wheat germ and stir to blend.
Mix in the all purpose flour very slowly until the dough is stiff enough to blend.
Knead the dough until it forms a ball without falling apart, and roll it to about a 1/4-inch thickness.
Cut the dough into shapes with a biscuit cutter and place them on a large baking sheet. Bake the chicken flavored dog biscuits for 45 minutes and then turn off the oven, but leave the biscuits in the oven to cool and harden overnight, or for several hours.
