How to Make Puppy Food

Most people treat their dogs just like family, so why not give them delicious, great tasting food? There are many recipes for dog food that are easy to make. We need to make sure that our pets are getting the proper nutrition while they are young so that they can grow up healthy and live a long and active life.

      Consult with your vet. Before you begin making homemade puppy food, be sure to check with the vet for any guidelines that are necessary to keep your pet healthy. Some dogs are allergic to some food items, so be sure to watch them for any signs of illness when they begin to eat homemade food.

      Cook food for puppies in a ratio of 1/3 protein, 2/3 vegetables and small amounts of grains. Many vegetables and proteins contain the proper nutrients your puppy will need for full growth.

      Make meal patties for your puppy by combining the recommended amount of ground protein, grain and vegetables to a mixing bowl and mix thoroughly. Heat up a frying pan with a teaspoon of oil and shape the mixing bowl contents in to 1/2 patties. Cook for 2 minutes on each side, or until the middles are done and no longer pink.

      Cooking ground protein, or fish from a can, combined with the suggested amount of chopped vegetables and rice can be a healthy and nutritious alternative from the store bought dog foods. Feed the puppies according to veterinarian recommendation, and be careful to not overfeed.
