Instructions

    • 1

Use a pressure cooker for the job. Put thee cups of liquid, three cups of vegetables and a whole chicken or bag of chicken bones and scraps into the pressure cooker. You can use just plain water, noodle water or even the water that you cooked the vegetables in the previous night. The vegetable water contains extra nutrition.

Cook the mixture for 1 to 2 hours. You can test the softness of the bones if you're uncertain whether they're cooked enough. If you find hard sharp bones, you need to put the lid back on and cook longer. A dog food stew should have soft mushy bones that won't hurt the dog's system.

    • 3

Break the chicken and the bones up with your hands to manageable bites for the dog. Everything should be easy to squash with your fingers. You can find any undercooked bones when you do it this way.

    • 4

Add eggs, cornmeal, flour or rice to give a little more consistency to the liquid once you're certain the bones are all broken and soft enough. Cook the mixture a little longer. Approximately 15 minutes should be long enough to thicken it up.

Freeze the dog food stew for future use if you don't believe your dog will eat it in a week. Pack the stew in bags holding enough for 2 to 3 days use if you freeze your dog food stew.
