What does a zoea eat?
A zoea is the planktonic larval stage of many types of marine crustaceans, including crabs, lobsters, and shrimp. Zoeae are typically small, transparent, and have a long, spiny body. They feed on a variety of small organisms, including phytoplankton, zooplankton, and other small crustaceans. Some zoeae are also known to be cannibalistic, eating other zoeae of their own species.
