How to Make a Homemade Cat Bowl That Fills Automatically

Owning a cat comes with certain responsibilities. It is important to ensure that your pet receives fresh food every day whether you're at home or not. One of the best ways to do this is to have a cat bowl that fills automatically. However, going to a pet store and buying an automatic cat feeder can be expensive. The other alternative is to make your own. This can be a fun and fulfilling task.

  • 2-liter plastic water bottle

Instructions

    • 1

Wash the plastic water bottle well. Remove the label on the outside and allow the bottle to dry completely.

    • 2

Draw a line at the base of the bottle where an indentation is visible. Use a permanent marker.

    • 3

Use a utility knife to make an incision at the line. Continue cutting along the line with the scissors.

    • 4

Measure the circumference of your pet's feeding bowl. Use the same measurements to cut a mouse-hole type of opening into the base of the bottle. The bowl should slide halfway through the opening without difficulty.

    • 5

Draw an oval on the cardboard, slightly bigger than the circumference of the bottle. This is the feeder plate. Cut two 1-inch-thick strips of cardboard.

    • 6

Insert the cardboard into the bottle through the opening. Position the cardboard in an inclined manner, so that the top part is higher and the lower part is just above the mouse-hole opening. Bend the feeder plate slightly along a central line to allow the food to fall into your cat's bowl.

    • 7

Stick the two strips of cardboard cut earlier under the feeder plate using the hot glue gun. They will support the weight of the plate. Stick the cardboard feeder plate on the strips and the sides of the bottle using the hot glue gun.

    • 8

Fix the bottle at a convenient location. Use plastic strips to hot glue the automatic feeder to a wall. Place the cat's bowl through the mouse-hole opening.

    • 9

Undo the bottle cap and fill the bottle with dry cat food. Notice how it slides from the feeder plate onto the bowl. As your cat eats, the bowl will be replenished automatically.
