How to Ween a Stubborn Kitten

Weaning kittens will give them a chance to grow into healthy, adult-sized cats with proper eating schedules and nutritious food. Weaning a stubborn kitten may seem challenging, but with a bit of patience and dedication to teaching the kitten about new eating habits, your cat will be weaned and ready for dry or canned food rather than milk.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase kitten milk from a local pet store, as opposed to having your kitten drink from its mother. Pour the milk into a shallow bowl or dish and place it in front of your kitten during its normal feeding time, to introduce a new way of eating. Place some of the kitten milk onto your finger to familiarize the kitten with the taste of the formula; which will help her to the bowl.

Continue feeding the kitten from your finger and leading him to the bowl each day, until he is finally familiar with his new eating habits. A stubborn kitten will require extreme patience, but when it is finally hungry enough, it will take a drink.

Mix dry kitten food with the kitten milk you purchased to ween the kitten, making the consistency thicker; similar to oatmeal. Give your kitten a taste using your finger to familiarize her again with the new, yet similar taste of food. As time progresses, your kitten will get used to eating the mixture of dry food and milk. Slowly lower the amount of kitten milk each day, until you are serving the kitten only dry food at every meal.
