Wagtail platies are omnivores and will eat a variety of foods, including:
- Brine shrimp
- Daphnia
- Bloodworms
- Mosquito larvae
- Tubifex worms
- Pellets
- Flakes
- Freeze-dried foods
Wagtail platies should be fed a diet that is high in protein and low in fat. They should be fed several small meals per day.
Tips
- Feed only 1-2 minutes at a time, then wait a minute or so before checking to see if there is any food left. If so, siphon it out and try feeding a little less next time.
- It’s very important to avoid overfeeding as platys are quite susceptible to bloat, a frequently fatal internal bacterial disease.
- When feeding fry and young platys, the best strategy is to feed a couple of times per day as much as they’ll finish with in a few minutes. They benefit from small feeding many times a day.
