What are fringed paws on a cat?

Fringed paws, also known as polydactyl paws, are a genetic mutation that causes cats to have extra toes. Extra toes on cats appear at the outermost side of paw, and are always on the forelegs. Polydactyl paws are relatively rare and most common in Maine Coon cats. Some people mistakenly identify this as "Hemingway Paws," since Ernest Hemingway had this kind of cat; but Ernest Hemingway called their big paws and claws, not this particular mutation with "Fringed Toes" or Polydactyl."
