How to Keep a Cat Room Smelling Good

Your cat room provides a quiet sanctuary for your pet. The cat room is also a practical room because you can keep the litter box there along with bowls of food and water. The cat will spend a lot of time in its room sleeping and playing. Cat waste, food, fur and body odor leave a cat room smelling unpleasant. You can keep the cat room smelling good by deodorizing and proactively battling new odors before they get overwhelming.

Instructions

    • 1

Scoop the litter box daily. Remove the waste from the room and deposit it in the waste bin or in an odor-locking litter disposal system.

    • 2

Install carbon filters in a covered litter box. Do not use an uncovered litter box if you want to keep odors at bay. Affix litter deodorizer stick-ons on the outside of the box to absorb any extra odor that escapes.

    • 3

Vacuum fur from fabrics in the room at least every other day. Use a pet hair attachment or a lint roller.

    • 4

Launder fabrics once a week. If you can throw blankets or bed coverings in a washing machine, do so. If the fabric isn't machine washable, soak the fabric in cold water and laundry detergent.

    • 5

Cover carpet and rugs with baking soda once a week. Allow the baking soda to soak into the fibers for 10 to 20 minutes. Vacuum up the baking soda.

    • 6

Place cat-safe solid room deodorizers throughout the room in out-of-the way locations, such as atop a shelf. Replace these deodorizers every few months.
