Instructions
Attempt to locate your cat. Once you've found your cat, it will be easier to lure him from his secret hiding place. Check obvious places, such as underneath your bed, beneath the living room sofa, in your broom closet or behind a desk. If your cat fails to turn up, check other, less-obvious hiding spots, such as in a dresser drawer, underneath your kitchen sink or in the bathtub.
Speak in a calm, loving voice to your cat. If your cat is hiding, he is probably scared, nervous or feeling ill. Avoid yelling or screaming at your cat to come out from hiding and instead carry on a casual conversation with your cat using a gentle voice. If you cannot find your cat, walk around your house while you call his name but be careful not to threaten or cat or speak in a menacing voice.
Offer your cat food. Tell your cat, "I'm going to feed you now" and go fill his dinner and water dishes. This is often enough of an incentive to coax your cat from his hiding spot. If the simple mention of dinner doesn't do the trick, consider walking around your house while you gently shake his food bag and call "Here, kitty kitty." Your cat may hear the sound of his food bag and come running.
Look for signs of sickness. If you're unable to find your cat, he may be feeling ill and hiding somewhere to relax. Look for signs of illness or infection around your house. For example, if you find a pile of vomit or urine, your cat may be hiding in the vicinity.
Pet your cat gently if he permits you to touch him. Do not simply grab your cat and yank him from his hiding spot. Instead, gently touch his back and head and pet him while you speak lovingly to him. If your cat begins to purr and feels comfortable with your touch, you can attempt to pull him from his spot.
