Decoration Ideas for Cat Cages

Decorating your cat's cage turns it from bare to homey, which can make your feline friend more comfortable inside of it. Use the shape, size and color of your cat's cage for decorating ideas that will be easy to put together and non-hazardous to your cat. If you choose to use paints in your cage decorations, select paint that does not contain lead, for this can become toxic to your cat if ingested.
  1. Curtains

    • Make your cat's cage cozy by adding curtains to the outside of it. The shadows and shade that the curtains provide can help your cat feel safer inside of the cage, if your cat is one that likes to hide from others. To make the curtains, measure the dimensions of the cage and take those with you to a fabric store, where you will select the material. From here, use a sewing machine to bunch and gather the curtains the way you want them, or stitch the curtains together by hand. Attach them to the exterior of the cat's cage at the top of the four corners, so that they create a canopy effect. Depending on the type of cage you have, you might attach the curtains with strong craft glue or other type of adhesive.

    Holiday Decor

    • Let approaching holidays inspire you for cat cage decoration ideas. For Halloween, you can drape an orange piece of fabric over the top of the cage and set pumpkins or jack-o-lanterns on top of it. Then attach soft black spider dolls to the outside of the cage, to make it look like the spiders are crawling up the cage. If you are on the heels of Christmas, hang some Christmas tree ornaments from the outside of the cage that are safe for your cat to play with from inside the cage. Never attempt to decorate your cat's cage with Christmas lights because this poses an electrical safety hazard.

    Backdrops

    • Creating a backdrop on one side of your cat cage makes it look like your cat is someplace else. Using cardboard and paints or crayons, create a backdrop image that is suitable for the cat cage theme you are after. For instance, a paradise them may inspire you to make a backdrop of a beach with palm trees. Place the backdrop on one of the inside ends of the cage and then embellish the rest of the cage to match. For instance, with a paradise backdrop and theme you could put blue pillows in the cat cage to make it look like your cat is on the ocean.

    Cage Frame

    • You can frame your cat's cage with wide, heavy pieces of card stock so that the cage looks like it is supposed to be a photograph. Measure the card stock so that you have pieces that will fit around the cage. Then, decorate the card stock by painting it and embellishing with craft supplies, such as pompoms, craft felt, craft foam, sequins, glitter glue, seashells, buttons or anything else that interests you. Lean the card stock frame against the cage and enjoy the sight of your framed cat.
