How to Find a Hiding Cat

Cats love to hide. Notorious for wedging and curling themselves into dark and small spaces, cats frequently go undetected in their hiding places. Cats may hide for a variety of reasons. Cats might hide when you have company, when the house is too loud, when frightened or when they want to be left alone. Whether your cat is afraid or only looking for a quiet place to sleep, if you are a cat owner at some point you will have to search your home for your cat.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide whether you really need to find your cat. If your cat has been hiding for only a short period of time and you are sure it is safe indoors, your cat will most likely emerge for attention or its next meal. If your cat is unusually absent from mealtimes or normal routines, then it is time to look for your cat.

    • 2

Call your cat's name in a quiet and calm voice. Search all of your cat's usual hiding places.

    • 3

Search other places that you have not seen your cat inhabit. Focus on any spaces that are small and dark. Check drawers, closets, inside, behind and under furniture (including appliances), laundry baskets and under blankets.

    • 4

Open a can of cat food and tap a spoon on the edge of the can or shake a bag of your cat's favorite treats. Food may be a motivator for your cat to come out.

    • 5

Continue to call your cat in a soft and calm voice. Be sure you leave all interior doors open so that your cat is able to come out.
