Instructions
Reinforce your garbage cans. Raccoons are attracted to garbage as food. Also cover or overturn any containers that may collect water. Removing nutritional resources from your yard will force raccoons to seek food elsewhere.
Install a floppy fence on top of an existing fence to cause raccoons to fall backwards once they reach the top. To create a floppy fence, fasten chicken wire to the the top of a fence using zip-ties, staples or nails. Allow the chicken wire to stand freely without any side support. Bend the wire slightly away from your yard. When raccoons grab onto the chicken wire, they will fall backwards.
Place a radio outside your home and tune it to a talk radio station. Raccoons are afraid of people and when they hear human voices from the radio they will be less likely to enter the area. Be mindful of neighbors when adjusting the volume.
Keep your cats inside the house.
Contact an animal control specialist to remove an infestation of raccoons from your home.
