How to Keep Cats Out of a Boxspring

Under the bed is the place of choice for cats when they want a dark, quiet area where they can escape. But if your cat is climbing up into your boxspring, you may want to find a way to prevent this kind of exploration. Cats that like to hide in the boxspring may be in danger of getting stuck or pinched by springs. It can be difficult to get a cat to come out from inside a boxspring, so you should choose a way to stop them before it becomes a problem.

Instructions

    • 1

Close the door to the bedroom so the cat can't enter. This is the simplest solution, but it isn't a viable option if you don't want to ban the cat from this area entirely.

    • 2

Tape or staple any ripped or damaged gauze under the boxspring. This will make it more difficult for a cat to get up into it in the first place.

    • 3

Use a mattress cover on the boxspring upside down. This hides the gauze bottom of the boxspring and it discourages cats from trying to get in.

    • 4

Apply a citrus spray under the bed to deter your cat from going there. Many animals dislike this citrus smell and will try to avoid it.
