How to Love a Kitten

Getting a kitten is an exciting experience, as you introduce a new member to the family. However, first time pet owners might find it difficult relating to the kitten and understanding how to love it. Like adult relationships, love grows over time so be patient as you get to know your kitten. While this bonding process takes place, you can develop affection for the kitten by caring and playing with it so you build up trust in the feline relationship.

Instructions

    • 1

Look at the kitten. New kittens are pretty cute, so give it a stroke and pick it up to feel its soft fur. Appreciate that it is now part of the family and yours to look after.

    • 2

Show your kitten to the litter tray straight away when you introduce it into the home. This will help train it to go to the toilet in the correct place. You will love the kitten more if it avoids defecating on your bed or in your front room.

    • 3

Communicate your affection to the kitten to build up a rapport. Pick it up by scooping it from beneath its belly, then hold it close to your chest. Give it a little hug, and a kiss on the head.

    • 4

Play games with your kitten because as you get to know its playful personality you are more likely to enjoy its company. Attach a small toy to the end of a long stick using a piece of string, then swing it in front of the kitten. Watch the kitten catch and chase the toy.

    • 5

Give your kitten little food treats from the pet store. When it behaves well, offer it a bite to eat. It will soon learn to respect you as its protector, and this will help you both develop a bond.

    • 6

Speak to your cat in a friendly, soft and slow tone of voice. Sing it your favorite song or tell it about your day. It will learn your voice and connect with you more. When it hears you speak it will learn to come and comfort you.

    • 7

Feed your cat at its designated meal times with lots of enthusiasm. Be excited and happy when pouring food for it, as the kitten will sense you are pleasant and loving towards it. In return, it will react positively to you.

    • 8

Give your kitten warmth and comfort by putting a hot water bottle underneath a blanket on your bed. It will come and sleep next to you, and then while you sleep you can subconsciously pass affection to the kitten.
