How to Get Cat Urine Odor Out of a Sofa

Cats and kittens bring great joy to their owners and great satisfaction as companions to the household. Whether it be one cat or kitten or several, the undesirable smell of cat urine often becomes stained into carpets and upholstery. It can be frustrating when a cat or kitten urinates on a sofa, especially one that isn't easy to clean. Many household items can safely and effectively remove the stain and odor that come from cat urine.

Instructions

    • 1

Soak up the cat urine with a doubled-over paper towel or two. Repeat this step a few times with new paper towels until the urine is mostly absorbed out of the sofa.

    • 2

Combine 1 part white vinegar to two parts warm water in a spray bottle. Spray directly into the urine spot and make sure to cover entire area. Let it sit for five to 10 minutes.

    • 3

Soak up the vinegar and water combination with the paper towels as you did in step one with the urine. Get as much of the saturation up as possible with the paper towels.

    • 4

Use a hair dryer to help dry up the excess amount inside the cushion. Keep the hair dryer at a distance so that the sofa doesn't catch fire.

    • 5

Lightly spray a pet neutralizer, which can be found at stores such as Petsmart, Walmart and PETCO. Allow it to dry naturally and spray it again if the smell persists.
